Area of responsibility:

Our group has identified immunothrombosis - the interplay of platelets, the coagulation cascade and the innate immune system as a crucial mechanism in host defense as well as infectious and thrombotic disease. We have highlighted that particularly the interplay between platelets and neutrophils is central to immunothrombosis. Beyond its protective effects, this interplay can cause severe hyperinflammation, for example in COVID-19. We now strive to further our understanding of platelet-neutrophil interplay and how it influences health and disease. For this, we use state-of the-art intravital microscopy, murine inflammation and thrombosis models, multicolor flow cytometry, Omics-approaches and in vitro setups.

Our requirements:

The ideal candidates should have experience with immunological and molecular biological techniques. Experience with mouse inflammation models, as well as intravital microscopy would be advantageous, but are not required. You should be highly motivated and team-oriented with a strong interest in immunology and cardiovascular disease. Solid English skills written and spoken are mandatory. The successful candidate for the PhD position should have successfully concluded a master in life sciences or related disciplines, such as biology, molecular biomedicine, immunology or cell biology.

Our offer:

• You will work in an international group of experienced staff (Postdocs and PhD students from different fields like veterinarians, physicians and biologists, as well as technical assistants) with an excellent infrastructure and a strong focus on translational research at Campus Großhadern.
• Your work will focus on in vivo research involving sophisticated mouse models and in vivo imaging approaches, in addition to state-of-the-art flow cytometry, as well as in vitro experiments.
• The salary will be according to TV-L. Starting date can should be summer of 2022. In addition, we will offer workshops (scientific and soft skills) and seminars within the research field and the opportunity to attend and present at international conferences.
