PhD position at LMU Klinikum

The International Research Training Group (IRTG 1123) “Atherosclerosis – Mechanisms and Networks of Novel Therapeutic Targets” is a structured Ph.D. program, which brings together researchers of different disciplines, institutions and universities in Munich. Nested in the Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 1123, Principal Investigators from the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, the Helmholtz Zentrum München and the Technische Universität München have teamed up to acquire an in-depth understanding of the molecular networks in atherogenesis, atheroprogression and atherothrombosis as the pathological sequence underlying coronary artery disease, in order to identify and verify novel targets for treating atherosclerosis.


The International Research Training Group (IRTG 1123) represents a truly international program and benefits from an excellent scientific environment and a state-of-the-art research infrastructure. The structured Ph.D. program (Ph.D. in Medical Research) provides a customized curriculum and mentoring specifically tailored to the needs of the graduate students within the CRC. Thereby, the IRTG 1123 offers a highly competitive graduate program at national and international level, in order to recruit outstanding students from in- and outside Europe.

For the upcoming winter semester, the IRTG 1123 is recruiting new students for Ph.D. projects focusing on non-coding RNAs, chemokines, inflammation metabolism and lipid mediators in the context of atherosclerosis and atherothrombosis.

Funding is offered and will include an initial 12 months fellowship according to the guidelines from the Deutsche Forschungsgemein- schaft (DFG) and subsequent salaries according to TV-L E13 or equivalent.

Activities and responsibilities

As part of the International Research Training Group (IRTG 1123) “Atherosclerosis – Mechanisms and Networks of Novel Therapeutic Targets”, you benefit from a state-of-the- art interdisciplinary qualification program with the long-term aim to educate a new generation of highly qualified researchers. As an associated research training group within the Munich Medical Research School (MMRS) at the Medical Faculty of the Ludwig- Maximilians-Universität München (LMU Munich), the IRTG 1123 provides a structured Ph.D. program (Ph.D. in Medical Research) with a modular organization which requires the acquisition of 180 ECTS points in a 3-year curriculum.

 

Our requirements

Applicants for the Ph.D. program are required to hold a German university Diploma, a Master’s degree, Staatsexamen or equiva- lent in Medicine- or Natural Sciences-related field and be proficient in English.
